May & June 2011: Preparation and Graduation |
|
I spent most
of March and April teaching in Lae (see previous entry) and the last day of
class was May 5th. It was a time to celebrate and to say good-bye. The
students gave me some wonderful gifts (which I’ll be bringing around when I
visit churches) and we had a small feast. Then it was back to Ukarumpa for me -
just in time to gear up for the festivities surrounding Daniel’s graduation. The
first event was “Banquet” where the parents work together to transform the
small gym into a dinner theater and small carnival….

March and April 2011: Teaching at CLTC Lae |

Christian Leaders’
Training College (CLTC) has a small campus in the coastal city of Lae, PNG’s
second largest town. They have classes Monday to Thursday evening since many of
the students work and I had the privilege to teach two courses concurrently,
each lasting eight weeks. My schedule
was to ride my motorcycle four hours to cover the 150 miles from Ukarumpa to
Lae on Monday morning, do some shopping and get ready for class by 6 PM…

January & February 2011: New Testament Introduction |

The first two months were consumed teaching a course on the whole New Testament to national Bible translators and church leaders. People in Papua New Guinea are oral learners and as such they love stories. I wanted to show those attending this course that the whole New Testament is a story, not just the first few books...
